Spring & Fall Nifty Socks
spring.jpg (2905 bytes)cornucopia.gif (8601 bytes)Along with the sneaks, fancy, colorful socks celebrate the warm and beauty of spring or lift our spirits in the shortening days of fall or even for the lengthening days of spring. Nifty socks are a wonderful craft for kids of all ages. This is a terrific way to decorate socks and have fun ! Remember to pre-wash the socks before decorating.

Pumpkin Seed Flower

She is the mother, works part time and has been co-chair of her kids' school council the past 2 years and is president of the P.T.O. Irene's children love to do crafts, so she has cupboards and cupboards in the basement filled with anything and everything that you can make a craft with. This is an excellent craft for all ages especially for our preschoolers. The seeds can be used to help with both counting and spatial skills (placing the seeds in the circle).

Apple Votive

These crafts are very simple and can be completed using household items. You can also use the dough like clay and make a sculpture. This is a fun way to make beautiful and great smelling pieces of art!

Potpourri Gel Jars

Gel Jars are beautifully decorated, scented gifts.  They are sure to liven up any room with their fragrance. You'll want to choose scents which your mom likes. You can substitute potpourri oil for the essential oils in this craft.

Turkey & Black Bean Chili
chiliusa.jpg (4906 bytes)This is a spicy and hearty fall dish. The black beans and turkey compliment each other in this chili. You can top it with a non-fat sour cream and chopped scallions. Rice can be included too. Tofu can be nicely substitued for the turkey. One pound of tofu cut into cubes can be added into the chili before serving- just long enough to be heated through.

Halloween Gourds

Colorful Leaf Placemats
This week's Craft of the Week features one that welcomes Fall into our homes.  These Fall Placemats are colorful and easy for all kids four years old and older to make. Make sure to have plenty of newspaper for the painting part of the craft. When choosing leaves it might be fun to pick ones that are different types for a fun fall effect.

Pumpkin Patch

Here is one great  idea to decorate your house! Your own personalized pumpkin patch! It's very simple, but tons of fun. You remember dyeing hard boiled eggs for Easter, why not for Harvest Festival or Halloween? All you need are hard boilled eggs, some orange food coloring and let your imagination run wild!!

You can make it as a nice fall craft or you can modify it for Halloween by adding a face.

Apple Printed Potholders
Printing is a wonderful craft for any age. It works well for groups of children and the individual. Boys and girls love to make prints using various fruits and vegetables as their templates. This print will use an apple that is cut in half. Another crafter, Darlene, uses pieces of (old and worn) bath towels instead of polyester batting. One of our crafters, Ann, says, "Apple Printing can be used in other ways, too! My daughter and her children apple-printed on blank note cards." Join in the fun and give one of your suggestions!!

Halloween & Fall Centerpieces

It can easily become a Fall decoration if you decide to make the wooden craft spoons into pumpkins, apples, or acorns just by using the appropriate colored acrylic paint. For example, if you would rather make pumpkins instead of ghosts for your centerpiece, then by painting the wooden craft spoons orange and making pumpkin faces you have a fun pumpkin Halloween or fall centerpiece. Halloween Pots are simple to make, kids from age 4 and up can have fun making these festive Halloween decorations.

Homemade Shell Candles

This is a terrific project for all those shells you have been collecting this summer. Try to use large and deep shells to make the candles- they will work best to hold the paraffin most effectively.These candles are excellent to accessorize your house and make fun gifts- it's never too early to start for Christmas!

Pumpkin Pins
These pins are festive and easy to make. All you need is some, felt, juice can tops and a little imagination! Remember to use a permanent magic marker if you decide to draw on the felt pin- you don't want your design to disappear.

Pomanders
These are these wonderfully fragrant, naturally made room and closet fresheners. They are perfect to make as gifts and a lovely way to spruce up your closets during the winter months.

Squash Candles
For this craft, all you need is a beautiful acorn squash and some paraffin to make a beautiful centerpiece for Thanksgiving or a lovely gift.

TP Bird Feeder
This craft features a simple and charming bird feeder that anyone can make.   As the weather turns cooler we all like to help our feathery friends stay well fed and healthy.  A bird feeder along with a bird bath is a very good way to help our visiting friends. This is also a good way to recycle spent toilet paper rolls!

Apple Ornaments
This wonderful combination reveals a spicy holiday scent and provides a beautiful ornament for your Christmas tree. Pat was generous enough to provide us with this fabulously easy and fun craft. Thanks Pat !

This is a great way for you to use a simple potato to make an  stamp for almost any holiday.

Lollipop Plants
Whether you are a teacher, mom, or kid who loves crafts, this is the perfect Halloween craft for you. It's very simple and you don't even need dirt. This is great as both a festive decoration and treat holder. You can use any kind of lollipops- Blow Pops, Tootsie Roll Pops or the traditional non filled pops.

Apple & Gumdrop Turkey
Peggy Fleisher says "This turkey is kind of figurative but my daughter enjoys making one every year. Sarah likes to make this turkey when we visit people around thanksgiving to give to them."

Paper Mache Glue
