One of my favorite stick crafts is "message bird" can.
A
cardboard type frozen juice can works best for this because the glue sticks to it easily.
- Choose a size can that is about the same height as a stick.
(Note: You can use any type can if you create a friendly gluing surface for kid's glue by
covering the can with some strips of masking tape. You do not have to cover the entire
surface, just enough to give the glue some places to stick to.)
- Glue sticks all around the can to cover it. You might want
to hold the sticks in place with a rubberband until the glue dries.
- You can paint the can if you wish, but you don't have to.
- Glue a clamp clothespin on the side of the can to look like
a beak.
- Glue a bottle cap on each side of the top of the clothespin
beak for eyes.
- Use a black marker to put a dot in the center of each eye
for a pupil.
- Fill the can with paper squares and a pencil and put it by
the phone. Clamp any new messages in the clothespin beak.

Ross has many years of experience working with and training children in preschool and
Sunday school. She has found, through her teaching, the best way for children to really
know the Bible is to provide hand-on experiences of making and using props related to
Bible stories. This has been an invaluable tool in helping children remember the
stories as well as their underlying message. The crafts are beautiful; simple to make.
Children will love to make Noah's Ark, Part the Red Seas and Grow hair on Samson. |
