  Gooey,
fudgy, or cakey, flavored with chocolate chips, coconut, or nuts, frosted or enjoyed as
is, who doesn't love brownies? This is a wonderful recipe from Bruce Weinstein who has
written an entire book about brownies. He says, "Here are the most decadent brownies
we've ever made: A sweet cream cheese ribbon is swirled into the buttery batter for a
treat that's rich, gooey, and still packed with chocolate."Black
& White Cookie
As a native New Yorker and as a young
girl living in New York, I would use my newspaper route money to buy one of these
delicious cookies from my local bakery. Back then I didn't care how they were made as long
as I had my black and white cookie every week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do !

Mexican Hot Chocolate
Cooking up some
history
In 1828, a Dutch chemist and chocolate manufacturer named
Coenraad Van Houten invented a way of making chocolate
into powder. Her reduced the fat from chocolate liqueur and made what was left into
a hard cake. The cake could be crushed into a powder, which would dissolve easily
into liquid. This started a whole new way to make hot chocolate. See this recipe from
author, Arlette Braman, author of Kids Around the World Cook!
Cannoli
This is one of my most favorite childhood desserts; cannolis.
This Italian pastry is very popular in New York bakeries. I remember as a child
growing up on Long Island seeing these delicious confections laid out in the cooled glass
Cream Puff bakery cases. The ends were sprinkled with lime green or multicolored
sprinkles. They were incredibly good. Included in this updated recipe are tips of the
trade from many of our momscooking members on ways to make the shells better and to keep
your filling from being runny.
Cyndee's Strufoli & Fiadone
This
is a great pair of Italian recipes from Cyndee
who offers this baked blend of honey and nuts
along with another zesty lemon recipe. She says,
"I have been making this for about 25 years. I love all kinds of Italian food and make quite a lot of it. I do not
remember where I originally got this recipe from, all I know is that it is a keeper and is
one of my daughters favorites."
Italian Biscotti
 Holiday time is the best
season for cookies! Families usually have their favorites, whether it's chocolate chip,
shortbread or pinwheels. Here's an Italian cookie recipe that I bake thorough out the
year. Biscottis are double baked cookies that are fabulous with milk or any warm beverage-
perfect for dunking! For Christmas I dip the ends of the cookies in melted semi-sweet
chocolate and allow to harden. They are barely in the kitchen for two days after that!
They make great gifts when you combine them with the Cheerful Cookie Box!!
Marylina's Panetton Cakes
This is a recipe from Marylina who has made a
holiday tradition on Christmas Eve with this recipe. It is a delightful blend of lemon and
vanilla with almonds, raisins and mixed dried fruits that will make a great addition to
your holiday table. She says, "This recipe I have made it for the last few years, for
my children and their families. We had it on vacation in Greece and wanted to share it
with the children. Now it is something we have Christmas
Eve when we have our annual hay ride out here at our small ranch in
California."
Almond Crescents
Crescents are very popular, not only for the holidays, but as a
great every day cookie. I believe it was the rich buttery texture and delicious almond
fragrance that sold my kids on these cookies. They would just tell you that they taste
great! That says it all to me!
Charlene's New Vintage Egg Nog
Charlene says, "This recipe is an adaptation from old one. My
hobby is collecting old, vintage cookbooks and I like to take some of those recipes and
adapt them to my own. I tried it out on some friends last year and we all gave it two
thumbs up." This includes recipes for both non-alcoholic and frozen alcoholic
versions to satisfy all of your guests!!
